The Linked Variations feature allows you to group separate simple products into a bundle using a common attribute, mimicking variable product behavior without creating a variable product.
This is ideal when you want:
- Each variation to have its own product page.
- Variations to appear on the catalog/archive page individually.
- Swatches or buttons for variations similar to a variable product, but linking to separate pages.
Example: Four phone cases:
- iPhone Silicone – Black/White
- iPhone Silicone – Blue
- iPhone Silicone – Coral
- iPhone Silicone – Fuchsia
When grouped via Linked Variations, customers can click a color swatch to navigate to the corresponding product page.
1. Enabling Linked Variations #
- Go to Theme Settings → Shop → Variable Products.
- Turn on the Linked Variations option.
2. Creating a Linked Variation Bundle #
- Navigate to Dashboard → Products → Linked Variations.
- Click Add New to create a bundle.
- Configure the following fields:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Products | Select the simple products to include in the bundle. Only Simple Products are supported. |
| Attributes | Choose the attribute by which the products will be grouped (e.g., color). All products in the bundle must have this attribute. |
| Attribute for Product Image | Sets which attribute controls the product images instead of using the default color/image attribute. |
- Save the linked variation bundle.
3. How It Works on the Store #
- Variations appear as swatch buttons on the main product page.
- Clicking a variation swatch redirects to the separate product page for that variation.
- Each product in the bundle is listed individually on the catalog/archive pages.
4. Best Practices #
- Use Linked Variations for products where each variation should have its own SKU, inventory, and page.
- Ensure all products in a bundle are Simple Products.
- Keep attribute names consistent for proper grouping.
